About Us

Scarlett is a Beagle who has been liberated by a US-based rescue charity, after enduring two years in a cruel toxicology laboratory.
Scarlett’s adopted human parents are Janie and Phil Green, who will be sharing Scarlett’s story here as she begins her new role as Beagle Ambassador for the science-based campaign For Life On Earth (FLOE).

FLOE’s Patron is acclaimed actor, star of Downton Abbey and Unforgotten, Peter Egan. On meeting Scarlett, Peter said:

“Scarlett is the first dog I’ve met who has been saved from an animal testing laboratory. She’s a beautiful and extraordinary dog. One of the reasons Beagles are chosen to be bred for use as animal testing dogs is because of how docile they are and what I found very sad about meeting Scarlett was that she was quite rightly deeply suspicious about who we all were and distanced from everyone on the day that we filmed with her. It was almost as if she was just putting up with us because she’s so wounded from her past.”

Scarlett is supported by Ricky Gervais and a host of wonderful signatories on an Open Letter calling for the science hearing – including Chris Packham, Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, Paul O’Grady and Lesley Nicol. Read more.

Over 100 MPs have now signed Parliamentary EDMs calling for a rigorous public scientific debate about the misleading and costly practice of animal experiments, with conditions endorsed as “well set out and fair” by Michael Mansfield QC: the debate’s outcome will be judged by independent panel of experts from the relevant fields of science.
